Everybody jill friesen here again with another quick and dirty tip today i am working working on my van. My 87 westphalia and i have some screws that are stripped on the body. Im going to show you how i fix it.
Oh. We have here is the water hookup and this hole mm here is stripped out a little bigger than it can be or properly find purchase so were going to do something to reinforce that now because theres nothing new under the sun.
Im sure this has already been done. But this is quick and dirty. What you do is you take an old electrical knockout or any piece of really small sheet metal.
That you have to happen to have laying around drill a hole in it run your screw through it around my screw through it and its got the threads in it now so then what you want to do is put this in behind here with some rtd or silicone or something to hold it in place or dbl whatever you want to use and that will hold it in place via kind of a quick fix this is like i say this is a quick and dirty fix. Im gonna do it properly someday.
Though take a glob of silicone rtv whatever you have laying around and do a good thick coat on this im not gonna do it with one hand. So get a good coat of rtv on it focus you want a thick coat just to keep the metals from touching each other i dont know what what metals are gonna react this like galvanized and steel so well see you just slide that in behind there put everything back in place and screw it down. Dont want to overly tighten.
It but snug it up wait for it to see a seat up and then get a little torque should keep everything in place for the next time you just take it out. And yeah.
Thats just a another quick and dirty tip from joe yeah. Its probably been done a million times. Im sure most people know but just in case you dont quick and dirty have fun.
Hey everybody just a quick and dirty update. I had a little bit of doubt of the rtv holding the screws in place.
So. What i did is i went in with some jb weld and a little brush and mix that up and put a blob of jb well just on one spot around the edge of the knockout that i had screwed through. I put a blog just on the edge just to make sure that it doesnt twist out i figured if all of a sudden.
The rtv let go and it started twisting then id be screwed. So yeah a little bit of forethought hopefully itll save me some trouble in the future and yeah. Enjoy the tip so .
