You know we’re here with another episode of before you buy the show. We we give you some straight up gameplay and how we’re feeling on the latest releasing today. We’re talking about kingdom come deliverance.
I’m sorry. This one is a little late it took a while because you got to put a lot of hours into this game. This is a lengthy game where to start with this one though i’ll say right off the bat.
Don’t judge this book by its cover first and foremost. It’s got one big issue. But i’ll get to that later getting right into it you need to know that this is a first person open ish world rpg and it’s one for a very certain type of taste it may not really be the game you expect it to be is coming off from the marketing and stuff.
Some people might go into this and be kind of surprised mostly because this is a very simulation heavy historical game. Where the developers actually hired a historian to consult and ensure the game is as historically accurate as possible and that earns points for me. It’s a medieval game complete with lords nobles peasants fiefdom’he’s no dragons or wizards or anything like that in sight.
And honestly. It’s kind of refreshing there’s some dense stuff in there if you care to dig in.
But really the attention to details like the way cities are arranged and how did some interiors look like you just really make things feel different enough from your average run of the mill fantasy rpg. You know by being around stuff. That was apparently real in a real region of modern day.
Czech republic. As the land of bohemia and with germanic slavic and holy roman empire. Stuff involved that it manages to feel like an interesting enough place you haven’t seen in a game.
Like this. The problem is it just takes a long time to get started and get good. But you start out as henry.
The simple son of a blacksmith civil war encroaches and then your family is killed in a battle. And you go out on a quest for revenge and adventure. You don’t really get to create a character which did really bummed me out until i realised surprisingly immediately this is an intensely story focused game.
I was not expecting that i was just expecting like skyrim murs. A witch or something.
Where you can just bum around in an open world instead you’re just this lame old real world. Henry. He kind of just sucks at first from his personality.
His look of his dumb face and his skills at anything from like speech craft to fighting with a sword and locked you’re also extremely limited in terms of what you can do and where you can go in the start of the game. And it really feels like a linear game. This is at a point.
Where you might actually hate the game at first the game takes a handful of hours before introducing you to real combat. And just the general flow of the game and the first few encounters are bad because the game tries to get across to you the fact that you just don’t know how to fight it just doesn’t help because the game wastes your time for a long while before getting decent. It just starts slow and parts of it remain slow just because the game is immensely dialog heavy that’s fine.
But a lot of it is just noble sitting in rooms spouting historical exposition for expositions sake. And i found myself not really caring because. I was focused on henry and his whole personal quest.
Now i’ll say once the game finally really lets you just go out. And do your thing you’re free to actually see what the game is about and what it has to offer and that is of course.
If you decide to stick around for this long because for me it didn’t get good until at least like seven hours in but some people might be hooked right from the beginning. I don’t know that’s just me that’s just personal taste. If you can’t tell i am having a hard time talking about this one now just because it’s a very specific type of game for a certain type of player while one type of player might see this game as a buggy half assed and complete boring and needlessly simulation clunky.
Kind of game. Some players that may love pass. Certain things and enjoy certain games may see a deep systems heavy game with challenging simulation style combat.
Clever. New ways of using stats and speech craft that does not hold your hand at all and feels way more like an old school rpg pc game. I lean towards that line of thinking.
Very much even though. I understand why someone wouldn’t like this game. But thanks to like i said earlier it’s just the uniqueness of the world.
But also how some elements are handled like speech craft and persuasion stats are cool because they’re affected by how you look too. If you’re covered in blood or you take lots of beatings and your clothes are all messed up and you’re dirty people will react differently and often not in your favor.
The cleaner. You are the better your outcome. Because you appeal more professional to nobles you can also learn how to read while also keeping up on eating and sleeping kind of like a survival game.
Many quests have different freeform ways to solve them very sandbox style like you can sneak in and poison somebody’s lunch or you can just run in guns blazing with a sword or you could sneak around you know whatever you want and even certain aspects of quests will change depending on how long you mess around some side quests will fail because someone got tired of waiting around for you and this isn’t new. But i love a game where you can talk or manipulate your way out of a conflict that is kingdom come deliverance in a nutshell. It has a lot of stuff like that there’s a lot to keep you busy and it feels like every mechanic of the game is really working against you.
But it still manages to keep me engaged and the story is interesting enough there are side quests and stuff. But the map isn’t as filled with stuff to do is your average triple a open world rpg game. That’s not always a bad thing.
But i just want to make sure people keep expectations in check you even run into some invisible walls and barriers here. And there. Which was really really disappointing however i will say a lot of the environment design looks awesome and feels really lived in and i had a really good time just kind of walking around and taking screenshots and stuff.
I did play on pc and most of the time the game looks decent. But it is a little poorly optimized.
But the game does look decent otherwise aside from some really wack bugs and glitches that i’ll get into in a bit cuz otherwise you’re following henry on his progression of becoming a badass and a pretty cool world. It’s like a living one with whether time of day and npcs who go about their day working sleeping and drinking at the bar. A lot you also may learn a lot of things about the time period as well i really like it’s very interesting to see how religion and politics are handled.
And it’s not quite like it is in some other games combat takes a long time to be enjoyable. But i’ve learned to really like it now it’s all about the angle of your sword and deflecting attacks and changing up your strikes mids fight and mid swing. It gets pretty messy once it’s more than one person involved.
But i guess. That’s realism. I don’t know some people may be annoyed by the quote unquote realism as gameplay mechanics especially with the cumbersome lock picking mechanic.
That the developers have acknowledged that they’re tweaking or just a non existent aiming reticle with a bow and arrow. But combat at least feels nice once you finally get into a flow with it thankfully that whatever you’re doing in the game your character actually levels up and becomes more skillful at it the more you do it the game. Just doesn’t always do the best job at showing you that but i still found it enjoyable.
Which does lead me to the biggest problem of the game. The thing that i alluded to at the start and this a lot of game has these problems.
But for certain games like kingdom come deliverance. It’s actually a big problem. I really didn’t enjoy the general glitchyness and bugginess of the game.
It definitely clearly could have used some more time in the oven. Now i understand. It’s a small team making a big game.
But it’s still really rough and often leaves a very bad first impression you have to be patient with this game. You have two arrows going straight through animals. While you’re hunting thanks to just poor collision detection getting stuck on stairs and rocks and areas that are pretty common and you have to walk through fairly often characters getting stuck on one another or glitching through walls or the camera just going in the opposite direction.
There’s even some crashes here in there. It’s like some hard crashes. It makes an otherwise fairly pretty and competent game look pretty awful.
Sometimes a couple. The bugginess with the fact that the game has a limited save system with either sleeping in a bed or drinking a valuable save potion.
It can cause problems. I actually like that save system. I think it’s challenging and it’s a little more old school but not with the buggy state of the game.
This is where i’d recommend possibly waiting if you are interested if you have the patience and you want to love it sure. But if you’re the type of person who is a little sensitive to this quality with your hard earned money and rightly. So i’d say hold off for a few patches and bug fixes or maybe rent.
It or something or try it on a sale. The team seems really eager to improve the game. The developers seem very active and i hope that is the case because there is a lot to like here and a lot to chew on it’s all challenging.
And it’s somewhat old school feeling while also just having enough new ideas to keep it fresh at the same time. I just get angry at this game just as much as i enjoy to continue playing it it’s big it’s long it’s pretty deep and i still just can’t keep my mind off it or move on to another game. I keep coming back to this so.
That’s kind of count for something right. I know.
This was a little bit of a weird one to break down. It’s kind of hard to explain this game. But hopefully from the gameplay you can see what this game.
Truly is it’s very slow the big exciting moments are very few and far between. But you might get invested in the world. So i do want to hear what you guys are thinking on this.
