Guys so for this video. I’m gonna talk about everything you need to know know when moving from controller to keyboard and mouse as you guys probably know the season is upon us. Which means tons of you guys are going to be making the switch over to the pc master race that also means.
99 of you guys transitioning over are going to struggle a lot at the start you won’t know what settings to use what practice routine to follow or how to begin getting better. That’s where i come in to help and make the process as seamless and smooth as i can so. Even.
If you’ve already made the switch over or you’re planning to shortly. I can guarantee this video will be just what you need with that being said let’s start with the big topic on every new mouse and keyboard players mind key binds your key binds in fortnight are without a doubt. The most important setting option you have yet for some odd reason.
Many new players seem to overlook them and copy whatever their favorite streamer or pro player uses. If it hasn’t been made clear already that is not what you want to do just because booga is amazing on his key binds does not mean you will be in most cases.
It’s actually the opposite and you’ll end up way slower and worse overall as a player so to answer the question you’re all ready to ask no there is not a best set of key vines instead. There’s a set of rules or guidelines to follow in order to make them more optimal. The rules are first to try and put all your build vines off your index and ring finger.
And on to your thumbs. And pinky. Some examples would be using left shift x c.
V. And your two mouse side buttons. This is so you’ll have full control of your movement.
As your index and ring fingers. Never come off of a or d to press your build binds the next rule is to try.
And only put at most two major key binds on one finger the more keys. One finger has to hit the slower. It will be when compared to multiple fingers hitting the same number of key and then the final yet.
Most important rule is to make sure they’re comfortable for you if you cannot physically reach your number keys for example. Then don’t use them or if your pinkie is really weak. Then do not put your edit key on it these are just a few examples of different and unique preferences.
You may have that must be taken into account. When choosing key binds so in the end your goal is to find the best mix of both optimal and comfortable binds to you personally. Now.
I usually do not do this because like i just mentioned. I don’t think there’s one set of good key binds for everyone.
But because i’m in the giving mood and this video is for beginners. I’ll tell you the exact set of key binds i would use if i started on mouse and keyboard today starting with my wall. I put that as one of my mouse side buttons reason being is this makes while replacing so much easier and smoother since you can strafe in any direction.
You like for my floor. I put that as either c or v. And hit it with my thumb this will definitely take some getting used to as you want to be able to hit both your floor and spacebar at the same time which by the way is why many pros tilt their keyboards.
But in the event. You don’t like it. Put your floor as f or q.
Instead next up your stairs should 100. Be your other mouse button.
It honestly doesn’t matter. Which one specifically all that matters is that it’s mouse. 4.
Or mouse. 5. Lastly your cone is a pretty straightforward one i recommend left shift.
Because you won’t ever need to spam press. It and you still retain full control of your movement. Moving on to your edit key and i love using efore edit f.
Works as well. But e is a little closer more comfortable.
And more accessible to wasd. Then crouch should either be left ctrl since we just use left shift or something like c. If you play with a vertical keyboard and can hit it with your thumb.
Just remember you’re gonna move side to side while crouching. A lot so do not put it on your index or ring finger. Finally.
The rest of your buys aren’t too important so i’ll kind of speed through them for interact put that s scroll wheel up or down traps put on t weapons can either be numbered keys or some random assortment of leftover stuff. You did. N’t.
Use like caps. Lock q.
Z. And x. And make sure you’re using.
Scroll wheel reset with the opposite direction. You used for your interact key all you got to do is put scroll wheel up or down in the secondary edit bind slot and then put the same scroll wheel as your secondary reset edit bind the next important thing i want to cover are your settings there’s probably. Five million videos.
Covering graphic settings and stuff like that so i’m not gonna go in depth in this video. What i am gonna do though is talk about the two most important settings. I recommend everyone on keyboard and mouse turns on that is sprint by default and confirm edit on release both of these settings will make your life so much easier because both of them make it so you press less buttons in the case of sprint by default you no longer have to hold down left shift in order to sprint in fact you don’t have to press.
Anything because you’re always going to be sprinting by default. The other thing.
This setting does is that it opens up left shift as a key bind. Which i recommended before you use four cones all in all there’s literally no negatives here confirm edit on release however is where it gets a little trickier. I’ve talked about this setting a ton in the past yet people are still very hesitant to turn it on to get straight to the point confirm edit on release is faster and more optimal than one edit key bind.
It’s also more optimal but not faster than double edit key binds the thing is we’re using both of our mouse side buttons for building. So double edit vines are out of the equation now the main reason. I recommend confirm edit on release is very similar to i recommend optimal key vines.
They not only improve your movement. But also help you build faster. How does confirm edit on release do that well by only having to click your edit key once you can move your edit key finger back to wasd faster than you could before on top of that you can also move it to a build vind you have on the same finger faster than you could before and therefore build quicker.
So if you’ve come this far in the video. And you’ve mapped all your key vines out to be as optimal as possible then not using confirm edit on release would just be the opposite to wrap up the video.
I’m gonna talk about the absolute fastest way to improve. I know i’ve made tons of videos. Regarding practice routines that i used to use or that pros like t.
Foo. Currently use. But i have not made an updated one that i recommend for chapter two before i get into it though i just want to let you guys know switching to keyboard and mouse is not easy it took me almost three months to get better than i was on controller and over a year to get as good as i am today mind you that was with me mainly playing public matches.
And not having a set practice routine to follow i didn’t have creative aim trainers practice maps or even simple drills. We all take for granted so if you want to improve do not just mindlessly play team. Rumble or squads with your friends doing those things will help as you’ll see later.
But my routine will help a lot more to start off the first thing you want to do is download kovaks aim trainer on the steam store then go and follow the guide. I explained in this video.
I’ll put up on the screen right now this will be your primary aim training. So i suggest focusing on mid to long range tracking drills for fifteen to thirty minutes after that load up fortnight and jump directly into a blank creative world here is where you’re going to hone in on the rest of your mechanics aka your building and at i suggest to practice random highground retakes. Different edit combinations and free builds you just want to get as comfortable.
As you can on your key binds while also learning and practicing useful moves like ramp rushes and tunneling techniques. Personally i’d sit and creative for up to an hour or even more. But you can get away with 30 minutes or so of hardcore grinding next grab a friend and load up a box fighting math box fighting has quite literally consumed.
Fortnight and has slowly become the most important aspect of the game to master. So logically the best way to practice them is to load up a box fighting game mode and become better at them. The other thing you can do which will also help for box fights is to load up and aim duel.
Map. Aim duels are a new way to practice your close range aim that i showed off in my shotgun aim video from last week. All you got to do is enter the map go down in one of the holes with a shotgun and start killing.
Whoever is in front of you finally to put it all together hop into a public match or an arena game and play to win this will test your mechanics against other players and work on your game sense. Which should have carried over from controller overall guys those are the most important things you need to know before switching to mouse and keyboard. So if you learn something new or found the video useful.
