Today, bluevelvetrestaurant.com would like to introduce to you Canon 50D – Setting up manual exposure. Following along are instructions in the video below:
“So we re having a look here at the canon 50d. Very kindly lent to to me by rob burnie. Appreciate that rob and for this first video. I just to show you we re not looking at the lens.
We re not looking at anything else or the quality of pictures. We will come to that but for this video. I just want to show you how to set this up on manual now one is when this arrived it s over here on this very nasty little green button at least. We re not on these sport modes and macro modes and things like this okay straight off of those so as we come around.
Here. There s a p setting. Which is a program mode. You ve got a shutter speed priority.
Which says tv on here av aperture priority. And then we ve got manual and m. It s the only one that you re going to be worried about okay..
.
If i catch anybody back on automatic modes. We re going to fall out okay. It s a very good tutorial on this site. Talking about what it means to set this up with aperture and shutter speed and also iso.
I ve run through scenarios. Where maybe you d be given by aperture as your priority or shutter speed is your priority. But i m not suggesting you re flicking back onto these buttons you re staying here on manual. So what we re looking at then is the settings that we re changing on here.
We ve got shutter speed aperture and iso down here is on 800. So i just want to show you out you can look on the tutorials about the theory of why you might change it. And what you might change it to. But let me set something up here and just show you what we do in now out of interest.
We re in quite a dark space. Where this is pointing to and the dial at the bottom. I m not even sure if that s picking up on here..
.
The needle is way off to the left on this again. You can see how this works on this second of the three exposure videos. But when i m telling you to in prease. The shutter speed.
We re doing this this top dial up here goes in clicks. Very easy to do and as i m adjusting it that shutter speed is changing. I m going from what 125 160 200. 250.
And so on and my shutter speed. Much sorry. My aperture on this one is done down here. So as i m turning this dial that changes now this is super and these manufacturers build these cameras very well you know it s designed that i m holding it here.
I even adjust this with one hand. I could adjust this with the other if you don t want to knock this what sometimes some people say to me this just isn t working down at the bottom. Here..
.
You ve got three settings. You ve got off you ve got on and then you ve got that s just on armed. This doesn t work there s another notch up that points to this and that is what frees this up. So that s a common problem.
So you might set this up. Here you re going outside. And let s say for instance. You re starting out on a shutter speed of 205 point six.
Okay you re going to touch the button just lightly up here. And it will show you on here. Where that s at if it s too low again go to the other tutorial. If it s too low it ll show you start to understand what to do you ve got to change this around so you re going to be bringing this speed down you re going to be widening up your aperture until this comes back up and the same the other way play with it now.
If you find that the need was not there it may well be that it s sitting right at the top or right at the bottom. And you ve just got a feel to get that back so i say the only other thing. I was going to show you these is oh and that s set on 800 on here and i believe it s down here no sorry..
.
It s this one is changing and that is adjusting my iso okay and again touch this and whatever it s on that will lock in these are the three controls that you will need for manual shooting. You re reading here for your shutter speed your aperture and your iso. This first button. And then you roll this wheel.
So all of them are done from here you can have your eye through the viewfinder and be doing all of this. That s why it s done this way buttons down at the bottom here are more for playback. And reviewing and the same over here that you shouldn t need to touch this. While you re shooting.
Everything you need is around you here. The same for focusing you ve got a spot focusing inside here with different points. That you can touch this here. And then you roll this around or you move this and you will see that dot moving around inside for your focusing so there we go that s just what i wanted to show.
