“Guys welcome back to my youtube channel. This is kiel dyken coming back at you you with another great review today. We will be covering retro ark for those of who not familiar with retroarch. It is the navigation system operating system menu screen quote unquote similar to mames menu that allows you to access dip switch settings change controls and configuration scanlines etc.
So with this review. This is primarily made for my arcade one up subscribers and fan base among different groups. I ve got a lot of questions about it and people have some concerns as far as what is retroarch and how do you kind of navigate around it so we will do a little video about that today and one of the reasons. Why i wanted to do this as well is because when i first started using retroarch and trying to figure out images and access dip switch settings through the virtual pi software.
I didn t get any assistance whatsoever from anybody. I was in many other groups and like pretty much had to figure it out myself. And so i just want to share a few minutes with you guys some of the quick steps that i learned or learn access okay just for clear disclosure purposes. I am currently using the supreme version 2 the supreme bill made by word dirty gaming and regalado and most of my games are running through the final burn alpha.
Emulator. Okay. So with that being said. We re going to get started.
And we re gonna take a look at our first game today which is the aliens vs predator arcade which is one of my favorite games you guys saw me debut this or we play this game. And access the menu screen a few weeks ago. When i did the is the arcade. Why not using modified robbers video.
So thank you guys for your support on that one i have about 7000 views on that and for those of you familiar with maine. You re probably used to plug it in a keyboard you can use that as well and hit the f2 button using retropie i believe that still works the f2 and tab button. But however i want to show you how to access it with the controller. I am using two xbox microsoft.
One controllers. Which are the ones for the microsoft xbox xbox one and in order to access the diagnostic menu first and foremost have to set up your input diagnostics menu by accessing it so with that being said. I m sure you guys have already configured your controller for your raspberry pi. So let s go ahead and get started.
I m gonna press him on the hotkey which is my xbox guide button and i m also gonna press the x button and you ll bring up this little blue menu here i m gonna hit the back button which brings me to quick menu and you guys can get an idea about what s going on here you got configurations you got a few other things. But we re gonna go back to this right here. Which is the quick menu now mines is already activated. But i want to show you guys how to access.

It and when you go to options you ll scroll down. And you ll see a diagnostic input. Option there so when you actually select it it will be on a none mines is on hold start and you have a few different options here that allow you to select which combined combination you d like to use with your machine. So we re gonna go back in we re gonna go back in resume and i m going to hold in the start button and this will bring up my input diagnostic screen here you have your input output cue sound and so forth.
But this particular game. We re gonna go to configuration and you can access your system. And this allows you to change this particular game from two players to three players default this game has only two players but now you have a three player option and we re gonna ace it out of it and of course in this screen you could all excuse me you can also access turning your demo seven on or off. You can also select how many coins you want the game to start and we re gonna exit out of here.
We re gonna go to number two this allows you to change. The difficulty in also how many number of players or lives each player gets depending upon when every game. It is okay so the most of it s very self explanatory now to exit out of this you must have two players plugged in to your retrofire device in order to fully save your functions in exit out. So we re gonna go ahead and press.
Number. One player one and to start on each controller at the same time. And that s gonna save our configuration and allow us to exit out and of course. We re gonna go here exit out and the game will reset.
Now just a quick tip for some of those you guys out. There. Who are arcade one up and arcade enthusiasts it we re finally building your arcade. We just want to give you a few quick scenarios.
When you re using retroarch. The start key and your hotkey will allow you to exit out of the game hotkey and b will reset. I ll hit so i can be right. There that resets the game hotkey and x will take you back to that retro art screen.
So we re gonna go ahead and get out of here. We re gonna start up a new game now the next thing. I m going to show you guys how to do with retro art is show you how to get the most out of your cabinet. So for those of you out there you ve probably got the street fighter.
2 cabinet. So you can modify it and play some additional roms and so some of your favorites. Like sunset. Riders x.

Men. Spider. Man. And was the spider man has amazing friends and ninja turtles.
Those are all four player games. However. If you re playing this on your arcade. 1up cabinet.
You only have the option of playing with two players or if you try to attempt to install this on the rampage cabinet. You only have a three player configuration. But what we re gonna do now is i m going to show you how enable all four players and even in some cases if you have the x men game for six players i m gonna show you how to default all of those players or controls to you the first player or the second player. Okay.
And now that we have our x men. Game. Fully loaded let s take a look quick look at the input diagnostic screen here in the game. We re gonna go down to options and of course as you see the input diagnostic is still defaulted at hold start so.
When you turn your system off on if you already adjusted this for one game that setting for your input diagnostic screen will apply to all of your games across the board particularly arcade games. We re not gonna worry about consoles right now that s a different beat. So we re gonna go ahead and hold start. And there really isn t much in here.
But i just wanted to show you guys what the input diagnostic screen looks like for the x men game alright so let s go ahead and look at our retro arc menu for the x men game. I m gonna hit the back button go over to this menu here just go down to input. Now as you can see i used the as i said i use the xbox one wire controller now i have two of the same controllers plugged in and the one is called number one the other one is called number two so we ll leave it at number one for right now and all of my controls here are automatically input. It and we re gonna scroll down to number three because what we re gonna do is we re gonna leave number two alone.
Because obviously. If you already have an arcade cabinet. Number two players already defaulted to number two. However.
If i wanted to i could change number two player to player one as well as well as player number three and number four. So what we re gonna do now is we re gonna scroll down to number three and as you can see i had already selected the xbox. One wire controller number one as my defaulted control pad for the third player. So.
.
If you are on a street fighter or a k1 up cabinet. This will allow you to active a third character on the screen. And give you that functionality and options to control that additional coin slot. We re going to hit the back button here and this is number four.
So if you re on the street fighter. 2. Or the rampage cabinet that s what allow you to activate that fourth player. We will go here power a so if i actually had different controllers here they would all pop up.
However as you can see there i m switching between number one and number two and we re defaulting. The player four controller to the xbox. One wire controller number one now the difference between this type of setup and mame is when you go through main you have to select or default. All the buttons or actually go in and select all the buttons.
You want for the specific controllers. So for example. If i would have to select so like button for a coin start button hit the control button for a number for the action button alt button for another controller you don t have to do any of that because this allows you to mirror every controller you have for your settings. So is mirroring.
All the inputs from controller 1 to player number 3 and player 4 in this case okay so we re gonna exit out of this we re gonna go back to quick menu yeah we re gonna resume the game and we re gonna hit the start button and as you can see there is player number 1 player number 4. Just wait for player number 3 to possibly show up. I know sometimes i ve had some problems with this in the past. But we ll just start with this right now and usually it will pop up in the game.
So let s go ahead and hit a couple of add some coins to the slot here there we go and as you can see the third player popped up as well so i don t know why that happens. But sometimes it does and so you can see we are currently playing x men. With all three characters i am controlling all the characters on the game. And as you can see there is my second player over there that i hit the start button.
Just doodling around nothing s going on with that so with that being said we re gonna exit out of this game. There is me jumping all the controls are the same now if you want to i mean i really don t recommend it sometimes it is fun. But you can actually change some of the buttons for each character so some are jumping. When you re actually attacking and some are attacking while you re jumping.
I ve done that before with ninja turtles and it s kind of fun doing it so you have different combinations of things and so forth. I ve actually done this with the six player version of x men. That way i have some attacking and some doing their mutant power at the same time so it s just a fun thing to do when you play in the game. All right you got all three characters going.

I m not controlling cyclops right now he s just standing there and all of them will do their mutant power at the same time because i ll default its are the same button so this is how you would set up all of your controllers. If you have a rampage cabinet or a street fighter cabinet and you want to access. All the additional characters from a game at the same time so that gives you the ability to control them all at once alright. So let s take a look at another game really quick i m gonna exit out cocky and start button and we ll take a look at let s see let s try you know what let s try sunset writers.
I m not sure if this is the two player version or the four player version of sunset writers. Okay so here we are we re in our game sunset writers. And so we re gonna go ahead. And do this one last time hotkey and x is gonna bring up our retro guard menu.
We re gonna hit b to get out of that we re going to scroll down we re gonna actually i m sorry when you get to the quick menu option there you re gonna scroll over to the right scroll down a couple of times to where it says input and then we re gonna go down again to input input binds obviously we don t need to do player one because i m player one so let s mess around with could player three and we ll make that xbox controller player one well you know what for this exercise let s go ahead and default. We re going to share the controller s this time so i m gonna give player number four the controller for player number. Two so they ll be sharing and then one in three will share as well so let s do input for number four is going to be the xbox wired controller number two and the input for number three. Just want to make sure this one s player one again okay so that one s player.
One all right so both controllers now have to be activated to activate all four buttons. So let s go ahead and do that and there we go we got all four players and in this case. You should have player 1 and playing three moving out side by side and right now i m getting ready to move my second controller and as you can see the second controller is controlling player number. Two and player number four.
