So here i am with my 2002 chevy silverado. 1500 the 53. Bigger engine.
I ive had it since was brand new it is now 2016. I have since the brake lines rust out which have been repaired twice now the fuel line was leaking. I noticed when i park that id smell fuel and then looked underneath and now the two lines are leaking as you can see just got done snowing yesterday.
Most of its melting. I dont have a garage. So i had to work on this out in my unpaved driveway at my old comforter.
There. I bought the fuel line kit lines to go calm good set. I only needed the one length.
But looking underneath looks like theyre all rusting out pretty good so i figured before us starts leaking in other spots. I might as well go ahead and replace the whole all the fuel lines doesnt look like its very easy to do. But i think i can accomplish it one thing.
I am not a mechanic. I work on computers so my disclaimer is if youre going to follow. My instructions do at your own risk of course take any safety precautions.
Especially when youre dealing with fuel lines. I can show you the instructions say to start the vehicle and then pull the fuel pump relay.
Which is right there as you can see its out and its spot is in there dont remember the exact location. When i pulled it out of there so what you do you start the vehicle pull the fuel pump relay and then it will stall out which relieves most of the fuel pressure its in the lines and if youll notice. I also disconnected the battery before working on this i also recommend some goggles not only just in case.
When you relieve the rest of the fuel pressure for the gasoline. But mainly for any debris thats going to fall in your face. Because it is quite rusty underneath.
Im so part of the fuel line kit. They call this the nylon fuel line repair kit basically thats so that if you do have to cut the nylon line portion of a fuel line which i had to do this will help you get everything connected all up again. So basically the lines coming off the fuel tank are nylon and right here is the rusted portion.
So right. There is where the line connects into the nylon portion. Which goes up into the fuel well to get that connector off when its rusted like that is almost impossible so i had to cut it as you can see were on the far left.
I cut the nylon line that goes up to the fuel tank lets see if i can show you where the hole is not sure if you can see it. But the hole is right at the tip of my pinky right. There also in that same general location underneath.
Where its routed theres the so this is the supply and you also have what they call i believe the return line so in the same locations. Rested pretty bad cant really see it so im assuming theres probably going to be a whole layer of a return line soon so im just going to go ahead and replace that too and i won correctly underneath it if the return which i also plan to replace so the leak. Its hard to get a perspective.
But this is the frame frame rail when you driver side so the fuel filter and then often air came into the line. Which is when its leaking follows up into that bracket then on over and then there are the nylon lines.
Thats where i cut the supply to get that off and these nylon lines go up into the fuel tank. Its hard to get that perspective. But on im going to end up having to cut this back further that a repair kit.
Its like a compression fitting thatll go right over that. But i need to get the length right so i can route it the the pre bent lines through the same brackets. So since i plan to go all the way to the engine with this im going to take a look at the rest of the route.
Lets take that off there. We are were going to take some flexible hose and not sure where that goes. I wanted to crawl under more this does not look like its going to be easy.
So im going to check out the rest of it. I wanna move a little bit. And see what i had ahead of me.
The instructions. I believe had me starting up at the engine. So just wanted to give you a look a little bit go over across how i started like i said i relieve the pressure are starting the engine pulling the fuel pump relay letting it stall out and i came under here and relieved remaining fuel pressure by taking this off.
Though inside the fuel filter and then i cut the nylon line. So i couldnt get that connector off and so i made my way sit dissolute this toward the front. The truck and the other line.
The other side of those flexible hoses and this is not going to be easy at all up goes up in there seriously debating just replacing the part they have addressed it all im dealing with this idea buster. I dont know i dont have to think about it maybe try to get a better look at that return line that also maybe listen to it the same spot.
The supply line did so we want to think about it. And then go forward at least repair that one section well dealer. I decide to check it out you can only replace the section that had the hole.
Which was kept small section. There i guess connected from click the line kit right there at the fuel filter. Im going to take that over ring right there take that o ring off replaced.
One thats on that truck so like anyone i have to do is cut this while not cut about taking underneath and measure. So the length works well with the way to bends youre supposed to go around looking you so want to go under do some measurements and cut that nylon tubing look at the length. I need to cut underneath.
I marked this repair kit length. The piece of tape right where its cut here. So theres i know youll help me measure underneath.
How much more of that nylon long. I need to cut because it the fuel tank. So ill go underneath and try this where i cut it so what im going to do lets take this length match up taped or cut.
It then cut back looks like its longer than what i need so go ahead and disconnect that you see your shading and cut some of this and im going to be its too long so first. I think i need to cut a little bit more and then ill take some measurements out from underneath the truck. So since my repair kit is the lines long too long of course.
I guess to get the excess. Im going to have to cut that line and this is where i cut the existing nylon liner runs to fuel tank.
Im going to take my measurement here and cut this right about there right there okay i get the same length. And hopefully. The bend in the metal line will match underneath and go into the same brackets.
So you see yeah. This works right so. There we have it compression fitting back on so.
As you can see this one that i cut off goes up to the inside of that compression fitting. So should be good for the length. I need underneath.
I just need to connect this and then ill connect the metal fuel line. This is all underneath. Im going to connect this compression fitting.
See if you can see it area this compression fitting into here. So ill do that now that puts phone down. And there we have it connects up to the gas tank.
Now im going to do is replace the metal fuel line through here to the filter and replace that oh ring with the one i came with the kit. There ill connect it up so next thing to do is put the fuel completely back in check. The battery and turn the key on bleed fuel system and try to start it see how all these connections anything gurney.
Okay been away for a while pick the other line get the thrust of the line dressed how you gonna have to hire a mechanic really difficult to get todays wines. So thats it its fiction. .
