I m shooting with the sony.
A7r to my buddy west is shooting with the nikon d800 both of us have native 70 to 200 millimeter lenses and down below the description box. I m gonna provide you guys with raw files from both systems so you can decide which one is better for you in the video. I m going to provide some straight out of camera photos as well as some retouch photos just to show you our personal style. So without further ado let s play the video.
We thought that we got this far don t stop now reaching for a distant star. Don t stop now a team a certain power change hi everybody my guy was here he is a lifelong nikon user. So what i m gonna do is hand over the sony a7 r2 and it s 70 to 200. He s gonna tell me what he thinks about it he has never shot with a mirrorless camera before i want to see i want to get his feedback on the mirrorless camera system.
And what he and what he thinks about it for portraiture and then share those thoughts with you guys so so. The first impression. I get is definitely the weight the way. It is a lot different.
Then you know the dslr a lot of my you know muscle memory is to to keep it balanced and stuff. And for this. I keep tipping forward because the cameras will light right. Some people might like that some people don t i i don t so you like a heavier buy like a heavier body.
Yeah i like a heavier body because like even in video and just as well as photography. Um. The heavier the body this is more stable. I tend to be you know i have a bigger grip.
I have like a bigger body. So do you prefer a bigger camera. Yeah yeah just with a little bit more weight like if i were if i were to do video on this thing. I would definitely add weight to it i would put it in a cage.
Add some weight maybe yeah. Just just to give it a little bit more because you could actually get smoother shots. When it s when it s heavier yeah lighter weight things tend to it tends to show a lot of the shake a lot of your own shake. What do you think about the electronic viewfinder shooting with an optical.
Considering that you should have been shooting with an optical. It s alright um. I guess well i m used to the optic. I m used to looking at you know through the lenz and stuff.
I feel like an evf like you end up you re looking at a monitor you know i m saying so there s a lot of like there s still some wiggle room. There there s a lot of latitude and stuff that you re missing. So like i had the model gold you know back and forth between the light and dark areas. So that i could see sort of the deficiency of like the actual evf.
Okay. You know there isn t much it s it s actually really good you know it it changes really well you could see the little flicker in it that it when it changes and you could see the little things it might be because i m used to video. I m used to yeah you know seeing that stuff. But it s actually really good it it changes fast.
I ve never seen anything change that fast. Oh yeah. If you have to and these are really good yeah. So alright.
So when it comes to the eye autofocus. You know that i always talk about eye. Now that you used it and you got to see how it works how what do you think about it um. It s nice it s a good feature.
I think it s something that could be abused in terms of like it s not gonna it s not gonna work it s not gonna work in your sin. Yeah. It s it s pretty much there to help you a lot of times. I ve seen a lot of photographers they ll use like some of the features and it s like you know they re they re putting too much too much of their faith on the feature rather than letting it be a tool right you know so for me.
It is nice like when i had the model move around you know it did track the eye. You know it stayed with her and stuff. I just didn t know how to compensate when it lost the eye when when she turned and stuff on my nikon. I know where to compensate for i mean i m usually choosing my focus spot anyway at that point it just it you would just need to get more acquainted with the camera.
That s just like me literally. Yeah. That s not literally a couple days with it i m you know i m pretty sure i would get where everything is you know so all in all you had you ve got to touch it you ve got to take some photos within. It is something that you personally would be interested in using in the future or are you just so accustomed to dslr you love the i love the optical viewfinder.
These are things that you love and is that is that something that you re gonna give up anytime soon um probably not i m always gonna be with a dslr. I mean i just love the weight. And it s like it fits it fits me you know. But for video like i would consider like going the sony route because it is i don t know like i ve seen a lot of the videos that you have and stuff and and you know seeing how it renders and stuff.
And it s really nice hey. Everyone i hope you enjoyed the shoot. And the message that i kind of wanted to get across in this video is i know it sounds kind of cliche but just use the gear that s best for you for me i love what the sony system offers for my workflow and my portraiture. But wes using obviously he got a little taste of the sony system and the features you still prefer to use a nikon d800 he likes the size and the weight of the body.
He also enjoys using an optical viewfinder. But that i m sure there s a lot of you guys that can relate to him that are out there so you know i wanted to give you guys a different perspective than in my other videos. If you are new here make sure to subscribe and i ll see you in the next video. ” .
