Following along are instructions in the video below:
“My name is breanna. This is my system. It consists up to rockford plunge powered. Powered.
Edc. 15 powered by two rockford. Power. 1182 amps each a 2 ohms mono.
So what makes this setup. Unique is these drivers have an optimal air space sealed or poured in which you can see in the specifications. I ll put them in the video. They run two and a half cubic feet sealed optimal or two and a half cubic feet ported optimal you may have seen this box on the exo s channel.
We did a comparison as far as the excursion running sealed versus corded. But today i m actually gonna take it to the next step and i m gonna put the sealed plugs in and we re gonna run the meter and we re gonna see the difference between the sealed versus ported on the actual decimal meter. So we ll go ahead and put these plugs in and we ll get a reading and we ll see where we re at sealed. We re trying to get a baseline reading of about 130 decibels.
We ll keep it at the same volume level and we ll switch it out and we ll do it again so we re in the car..
We ve got everything set up we got the ssa apm one meter you can buy it at ssa comm. I think they re on four hundred fifty bucks. But it s bluetooth wireless to your phone it s gonna give us a decimal reading here we did some preliminary testing. We know at volume 23.
We should hit around 130 decibels flat list for testing purposes with the sealed plugs in so. Here. We go all right so we did a one thirty point one two and what we re gonna do is we re gonna leave the volume exactly where it is leave everything up here set up we re gonna go out we re gonna change the plugs. We re gonna take the plugs out we re gonna put the port flares back in make it a ported box.
We re gonna see exactly what we hit four four decibels get these plugs out we re gonna put the port flares in and then what we re gonna do is we re gonna meet her it again and see what we get for a for a decibel reading all right here we go all right so we re gonna go ahead. We re gonna reset it now and you notice that it was a forty six hertz tone. We know that the vehicle peaks at forty six. It likes forty six sealed that likes forty six ported at the comps that s what she s been metering.
She took first place at the jeff lockhart memorial show all right. But here we go same volume. Volume. 23 let s go all right so we did a one.
301 before with the..
Sealed and now we re metering a 130 175. Ported. So it looks like we gained about a db and a half one point. 6 db.
Some around there a lot of people expect to see 3 decibels going from a sealed box to a ported enclosure that s obviously not the case with this particular situation maybe your results might vary with your own vehicle. But i just wanted to make this video to put it out there and actually show people in a real world situation. Because with this box. And and just and just let people know what they can expect to get if they have a sealed setup and they wanted to go with a ported set up so you know maybe i ll do another video.
We can try to change the tuning and stuff like that and show you guys well you know my box doesn t hit hard at 30 hertz. You know i wanted to lower and see if we gain anything in that particular frequency range. So we can obviously do that later as i said you know i can try to do a video you know between you know double the cone area just use 115 versus. Two 15s and see what the meter differences or use 1 amp.
And then 2 amps to try to see what doubling power would gain on the meter. But for today. We just wanted to do this little experiment. Appreciate you guys watching this video shout out to the amp lab cd.
Amps repaired or anything..
Like that or if you re looking for some power head up the amp lab. Yeah. So that s about it for this video subscribe. If you like this video.
Like i said. I got some other videos coming thanks alright as a little bonus feature here for sticking around. We re gonna do a full tilt run field. And then a full tilt run.
Ported and. See if it still. Stays the same. 15.
Ish db. Difference all right so. Here s sealed on the port s fully sealed up. I know everything clips everything they ve set at 33 so 33 on the volume.
We re gonna max it out sooo we hit 4 decibels seals and try it port it here..
We go 1 45. 46 sealed. And we ll go ahead and pull it pull the plugs out run. It ported and see what we gain alright.
So we got the plugs back out. And we re gonna do a full tilt run with the ports in and we ll see how that goes. I ll reset here same volume. 33.
Same frequency. The only difference is this is ported full tilt. That would you two like a 145. Something before so we did a 146 to 5.
So really again it s it s not the huge gain that you would expect sealed versus ported. Just a little over a db difference. So again hope you enjoy the video subscribe for other videos. ” .
