“Is your bachelorette weekend. What s in my head there s a view so many many hot miami babes. We re gonna be swimming and big girls hi. Alice peter and get out of here.
She s mine. Now. Yeah. I m getting too much trouble.
Okay yeah. I want wallace before girls are back together. We don t get the features or a lot because we re all so busy with our lives hisle. What he doing for work these days well singer songwriter is the drain potty clown is the reality.
But this weekend is all about us just like old times. Now you ve got coke from the busboy. Why so everyone s at dunham being a stupid fucking. Con and you look public.
Okay. Sorry. I did a little bit. Oh beans let s get to the bean.
I can feel special. Oh. God i kill the guy nanako. Please.
No no no no flips over out and then we ll probably let s get rid of drugs come on how are you doing them okay. No one tell me what to do and i will do it huh. My uncle s a lawyer should call him first sounds like this was an accident. Thank god he s going to the body.
What okay so actually we have already moved. He knows that could be up to 15 years in prison. Oh. My god is everything all right this is he ll be the best weekend of our parking.
Lot right now. More hi baby boy. Now. Oh.
God no. No no no good give it up. We have jillian bells going kravitz kenan. Ilana vapor.
And calls up you down see stars of the incredibly funny movie rough night guys congratulations on a really wonderful funny funny movie. It s fantastic congrat you you everybody should go see this movie. It s so goddamn good paul you re so smart. I know i mean i know when they compliment you their taste is incredible perfect right perfect.
Yeah. Uh talk about where this movie came from you wrote. It with lucia. So how did this start where did you get the idea.
But barely you mostly wrote a rifle. You know i speak. I speak. A story stream of consciousness.
And the chia takes. No she s very fast typer uh. No yeah. We we were actually in a cab in new york.
We the seed of the idea came from we you know working a lot you don t get to see your friends all the time and putting your career first is not always great and so we have a lot of guilt about not seeing our friends all the time. And so we were talking about that and you know we like to write for women women are funnier than men and so we were through true give it up and i was listening for applause. Oh i was listening from doesn t well. I don t know how this would be kurt.
I don t know yeah we we essentially we were in a cab. When i think that she was like what if to get a group of women together old friends. Together. Because we were kind of thinking like what s what s like a big chill.
A movie. We re going to get people together you re like well it we ve never seen a male stripper get hurt by a bunch of women and women get naughty. So it kind of just came from that how did you go about assembling this amazing cast. Everybody s perfect in the movie.
Everyone is perfect..
I it we have a dream past. This is the most amazing. We are in love with our cast really was just about like figuring out it s kinda like a puzzle like what the chemistry in the alchemy was but honestly it it s pretty insane because everybody became fast friends. It was really a dream come true go with a k to go with it cage.
No way. It was so fast and so furious and i keep a picture of these girls in my wallet. That s true. No.
Pictures. Ha ha ha. Yeah. I keep them.
Alone. I have it on my fridge. Into my room. We re so so it stole mine from my trailer.
Remember i don t have a picture of all of you but i google image you a lot to remind myself of the time it s just as good yeah. It s like you guys look like the best versions of yourself do it google image yourself ilana you play a locust kind of like who you are in real life you are an actress and a comedian. But you are very much if you follow you if i people follow you on twitter. You are a woke activist in many ways.
What was it like sort of writing an exaggerated version of that in kind of almost in some ways nicely lampooning that idea of yourself. That s a cool of you. And i think you might be giving me. A little i may be woke sweet.
But i work a lot um. But yeah i feel like all my characters so far have been and kind of the way i approach this craft is that um. I always kind of want to feel like this seed of this person is me and not like it s always fully me. But some version of me that i could have been so it does it does feel very ilana wexler ilana glazer.
But it was fun too it was really funny and fun like we got to this point with all our characters that we were like that s so blair so i would say something i was like a hawk or sub. We re right now or like you know just all of us and i felt like i was like slipping into frankie. It was really it was really such a funny. We really like embodied those character in a way that we were like joking about franky and i was like is it me or frankie you know it was imagine.
It s hard not to do that because you are in every scene together for the most part it s not as if this is the type of movie. Where you sort of come together. At different points. In the movie.
You are literally in every scene. So every day of the shoot you guys are together right. And it was like thank god we had this immediate chemistry because it is palpable and i think that s always that authenticity is always transparent and that way we re like just lucky that you had this vision for this chemistry. And it was it did come true and even more than you can really picture before it actually comes together.
But yeah. It was it was so fast such best friends and it i think smells like it on screen kate you done an amazing australian accent an amazing it s for the mouth not the you oh that s perfect you got it you got it. Oh no i know how to use a mic. I m sorry go on with your wedding with sequencing your australian accent is amazing in the film and it s at one point extremely funny at the top.
But then you find a way to kind of even it out so you don t consistently overdo it throughout the film your character can become relatable. How did you how did you do that how did you walk that line um. Well you know i really like the australian accent. I always have and i wanted to celebrate it and i am i hope i did it justice.
But i think the essence of the character is just a person who is delightful. But also an alien and i don t mean a legal alien like from another planet. And so i often feel that about myself sometimes not the delightful part. But i often i catch myself saying things and then i think what am i saying.
What am. I adding to this conversation. So i for me that was i related to the character on that level. And i wanted to just blow that out but i think she s grounded and she has such as like sweetheart.
But the tells of her life or so bizarre and that s the kind of gal. I like plants so where did you find the australian accent. Who did you talk to what sort of research did you do i listen to a lot of australian podcast and i watched summer heights high for the time the best yes. It is the best joey.
You have a pretty phenomenal scene with demi moore and todd. I always forget ty burrell ty burrell excuse. Me. I confuse him with another.
Tiber. Maybe. If that s a person. I don t know ty burrell.
What was it like shooting that i don t want to give anything away for anybody..
But uh. What was it like shooting that scene. It s it s pretty wild. It was a it was sexy.
Damn right oh that s the end that s full answer. Oh do you want another question or should. I move on to another person. It was fun it was it was i mean those two are hilarious and sexy and yeah.
No it was sexy. We got a we were all jealous we were pissed and we were jealous there had been all these threesome scenes written in and then it just it was just so easy was that cut boys yeah. It was crazy that decided on her date like no you re just going to do it we re cutting ours yeah. We all sort of like volunteered sort of like an exercise and then it was like what do we do it.
What is this for this wasn t even in the script. It was wild exploitative on palm lucia s part oops gillian your character is kind of the planner of the entire event. She s a fairly uptight about it while at the same time trying to be extremely prove how loosen and fun. She is i think you have the most dramatic work to kind of do in this in this big comedy.
What was that like sort of balancing the two yeah. That was very different for me. I normally just play a well weird horny women which i kind of m in this movie. But i but yeah there was there was a little bit more meat to it and i haven t done a movie like that before and that we shot like a very dramatic fight scene like all in one day.
And it was really heavy and intense and like all of us were feeling it like by the end of the day. We saw sort of or in a group around each other and just supporting each other and and i was like i only want to do a drama. If i can do it with a bunch of women that are the supportive. I should brag for them because you know i think everyone knows that these are some of the funniest people on the planet.
But everybody in the movie. I mean the movie is very grounded and very serious at times and has a lot of heart and to see these women also be so gifted dramatically is truly infuriating. It s really jealous making it s under unbelievable. They re they re really incredible all of them in the movie.
And i think that s something that you don t necessarily get until you see the whole thing that it actually is pretty grounded and the work in it is you know really heartfelt. It s doing comedy that much different from doing drama as actors. I mean. It s mostly about commitment except common.
I think relies more heavily on timing you just have to be grounded and committed the most right most of the time let anyone wants to feel that take it you reach for the mic first. I was just going to throw the question at someone i haven t done much drama. So i i don t know i m not sure if the difference is. But yeah you got it s all rooted in just um relationships and it was easy because as evidenced by the picture in my wallet is it different.
I don t know what do you did you think it was different julia. I mean the energy is different yeah. I felt actually we were getting closer when we were doing the more serious stuff sometimes right. I mean we can do bits all day long yeah you know.
But it s nice to experiment with that and do it with a group of ladies that you really trust like i really trusted them all and i feel like also i want to give props to alana because i feel like early on she was great about throwing out compliments to each of the women and really saying. You know like oh you were so strong in that part or zoey that was so funny you have to keep saying that line or kate. This would be a funny lot like you were really good about setting that up and i felt like it really let everyone be loose well. I was like dislike team of it was like a team of quarterbacks.
You know everybody is so good. Everybody was so talented in this movie. And it was like such a. I felt so lucky to be able to learn from each person you know not and and the the group mentality.
Too. But each person. I i just felt like i learned so much from each of you and scarlett. It s like sort of just a constant note taking in my head like damn you know like a clip of it everybody was just a talented.
It wasn t it was easy to see everybody s strengths. I ll talk about the bachelor party that your character is involved in and yeah. The decision behind making those men honey as boring as possible out okay boring um. Interesting adjectives.
I would say dynamic yeah they well actually. It s kind of so in the movie. You see both the bachelorette party. But also the bachelor party.
Which is actually based on a bachelor party. I went to a friend of mine was like let s not go to vegas and spend 800 on booze. Buy. Me.
The nicest dinner you can so we went and had like a really nice dinner. But yeah. It s kind of the guys in it eric andre bo burnham hasan minhaj and patrick carlyle all play sweet sensitive guys. And i think that was like an important thing for us to do to show guys that i think aren t always shown you know it s not like bros who are like partying hard while the women stay home and worry it was kind of the opposite.
It was uh guys..
Who did a wine tasting and were sensitive and supportive of each other s feelings. Oh burnham has one of the lines in the movie that i laughed a heart like the hardest out is when he says take it about the huh. Yeah in a very sensitive way so funny take it it get a great laugh. Because it s normally like don t take that dude.
We re at the bachelor party. But he s like take it yeah and we actually didn t even why wouldn t you yeah exactly her yeah. We didn t even know that was a joke. But it was like yeah.
No we didn t think it would get the response it does but it always gets a really big laugh. Yeah yeah. Bo burnham is great in the movie. He plays kind of my best friend best man talk about your characters arc in the in the film and the journey that he goes on sure so also based in truth.
I don t know if you guys know this news story about the woman who is an astronaut that were an adult diaper to drive across the country. So we were like we need to memorialize this we need to put this into something and so because my character finds out that something is going down. He doesn t know what. But he thinks perhaps scarlet his growth character cheated he needs to get to miami to like win her back and figure it out and so he has to quote unquote.
Sad astronaut. Which is uh basically putting on an adult diaper and driving non stop overnight. Yeah. You can laugh out a lot of guys.
I see you chuckling. I see you holding it in laugh out loud laughing out loud. When i do it you do it. That s how this works.
Thank you know what s the best part of that oh yeah. The best part about that too is i heard that reese witherspoon might be playing yeah in a movie. Now there s like a soul. I often love that like i have to sing this hysterical reese driving the whole time just being like like crafty.
But yeah i was hyper yeah. Pam yeah. I think a lot of critics are people who write about this are going to say. This is the sort of female hangover.
I think when i tell you downstairs. I said it was the non misogynistic. Very bad things which is what i liked about it um. But what i also really liked about the film is that it didn t feel the need to answer the sort of misogyny that i sort of in those films.
It just sort of is what it is it didn t feel like you guys. When you were writing it ever felt the need to sort of take a scene from the hangover. And then subvert. It in some capacity kind of not thinking about it at all just focused on these characters and you know people i guess can compare after the fact.
But i feel like during the writing it really in the script it just feels like it s really about relationships. And it s not even i mean some of the jokes like i always drug reference. The wax strip cracks me up and it s just such a genius plot device. But but you know that happens to be like a female perspective joke.
But it s like we all understand how wax strips work so it it i don t know the. Smooth. That s funny yeah and like also just the whole movie isn t like we re going to make the female such and such it s not disclaiming itself. It just is a great movie.
Absolutely let s get some questions from the audience. You have a microphone yes hi. I m so excited to see this movie. And i m so excited to see you guys here today.
So my brother is getting married this summer. And i m going to a bachelorette party next weekend and i wanted to know if you guys had any advice for me as i go on that journey don t kill a stripper yeah. If there s a stripper don t jump on them. That s one i would say just personally.
I m like don t think too much enjoy it and drink water i love this one each alcohol. You know drink a glass of water with four after each drink take advil before you go to sleep. Bring weed and remember that zika is still a threat. Yes skin so soft sound advice next question hi guys.
So i ve been fortunate enough to have seen the movie. A couple of times. Now many times. I was at the one you so i saw you there yeah at the screening.
This second one. I was wow early adopter early adopter and i loved it so much you re all so talented oh that s my birthday snicker thank you pacemaker tasting and but one of my favorite things that song that case gets to sink in the end. And i wanted to ask where did that come from oh. Well you re my favorite one in this whole room.
I am there we were trying to figure out what the job of my character was and i said is she is she a rap artist is she oh no she is a party clown..
But she wants to be a singer songwriter. So i kind of like was fiddling on the piano and wrote this song about the party that we just went to and paul was kind enough to put it in the movie. And there. It is i mean kind enough not true it had be because basically when we were talking.
I was carried by god we re like you know and you could do something. If you want and case like well let me see and we got a voice memo of a brilliant genius. Hilarious ballad about the experience. And we were like new ending to the movie and the funniest thing about it is how good it is hope you have full kate s voices.
What an incredibly natural melody writer you are this and she performed it live. It s performed live that is no he live recording. There is no it actually was pre recorded no i mean i recorded. I did a record.
I was singing to a track no it s lies. What we use is live what we use is live. I promise you it s real. I it is true i legit sing it as i know i know i think i ll be by myself it ll be like some oh you re human man.
Oh. My god it s all kate mckinnon. It s so like elton. It s bizarre you re talented.
I always say the kate is the elton john of comedy. I have always said yes years and years and years before some true magician. Yeah. I feel like elton.
John of comedy. Yeah. Elton john might be the elton john of the company. You know yeah.
I don t want to knock him. Yeah. Next question hi. So how did it feel for all of you to film in saddlerock new york.
Even though it looked like it said miami in the movie. But it s new york giada did jim i personally do not enjoy the foliage of tropical places. I like a northeastern conifer and so for me. It was so great to just be on long island filming your home yeah our home our homeland.
I was so relieved to be connected with my roots for this film. So it did make a difference to me really i was like cool we re in it wasn t really about the um like location. It was about the movie inside of how we were trapped in that house for weeks. It could have been where we were singing during our last take in that house like and we re coming back.
Never coming back go. For it. Yeah. Yeah.
Oh. From look at from the right. One. Three day.
I m never coming back never coming back. I m crazy we were so excited to not go back in the house. It wasn t about really like the beach. It was more like that though why unite allows ivy were we just weren t held hostage inside of it was crazy just the house.
But i don t think i didn t it s the only miami house in long island. It s a true miami looking house. Oh. My god crazy out there.
I never didn t know it was miami. So congratulate whoa. I wasn t i wasn t picking it out guy. I loved the film congratulations.
It s so funny everybody should see it opens next week. Right friday june 16. Friday jersey rough night give it up everybody. ” .
