“Guys. It is your budget audio file. And i m excited because i m gonna gonna be sharing the nad see three to six b ee with you guys so. Let s take a look at it so looking around the front of course.
We have our power button we ll have our soft clipping indicator headphone jack remote ir blaster. We ll have our media player input. Now there s also a media player input around the back this one will supersede. Whatever is plugged in there so.
If you have two things plugged in you can t use that one until you unplug this one then of course. We ve got all our inputs here. We have a proper tape loop on this thing. Which is really nice obviously we have our tone defeat bass.
Travel balance and obviously our volume knob. Which is a motorized potentiometer as well so let s take a look around alright of course. We have our second media player input here or the first one depending on how you look at it. We ve got various inputs have our proper tape loop two sub outs.
Which is whether unique at this price point to the c three to six are pre out and main in which enables this to be used with a separate power amp. Which of course you can use this as a preamp or you can use this as a power amp. We have our speaker binding post. Here soft clipping switch.
Here we have a trail. 12 volt. Trigger out and a ir in and out. We.
Do have a main power switch. Here and our eye iec c. 15. Jack here.
So anywho. Let s talk about sound all right so sound quality with the nad c 3 to 6 b. Ee. But first i want to talk about build quality and build quality with it is superlative you know i look around the forums.
Quite a bit and i like to read what people say about things before i pick them up gives me some idea of what to expect and also it s always good to hear others opinions. Which i imagine is one of the reasons you re watching this video now bear in mind they don t make the c 3 to 6 b..
Ee. It s actually been replaced for the c 3. 3. 8.
Which is a newer part of their classics lineup and of course. It s class d versus. This being class a b. Now.
That said. I haven t really cared. For. In a ds.
Newer class. D products apart from the d. 30. 20.
Which i really do really really enjoy their older amps like the c32. 6. And of course the 3 the c 3. 16.
Are lovely products to behold this definitely takes the performance of the c3 16 up a notch. But it does things a bit differently case in point is timbre or tone. This thing has a much more natural way with tone especially things like pianos for example. Bruce hornsby and the range.
The way. It is one of their their seminal album. We can call it mandolin rain is on here. Obviously the way.
It is that sort of thing is on here. But lovely album and of course. Bruce hornsby is a piano man and he threw the c 316 pianos kind of in my opinion. They kind of had a slightly unnatural quality to them through this they the timbre.
The tone of a piano really is much more natural and sounds like you re both listening to actual piano and because of that it s just way more enjoyable. It s way more lifelike as a result bass is probably its strongest characteristic..
It s really really good with bass. Very strong. Very palpable mid range is you know again very good tone. Very good timbre of course.
The piano exists in that mid range and it just has a way of sounding. I don t wanna say thick because sometimes the the description. Thick can come across as a negative in this case. Though it definitely is a full mid range very earthy in my opinion very very well done where again sometimes it can be a little bit unnatural.
Sounding on the c 360 on it s a tremble. It s definitely a little softer now i personally prefer soft clipping off. If you noticed in the rear view you ll notice that the soft clipping was in the off position. I personally feel there s a bit better high frequency extension in soft clipping.
I tend to listen around 70 75 decibels of volume level. So to me i m not using more than a couple of watts out of this thing you know a few watts especially with my clip speakers. Which this mates with extremely well so. But the soft clipping in my opinion does kind of cut the high frequency off just a hair and it doesn t cause i kind of limits the sparkling.
The space around high frequency in the treble region. But it s not quite as sharp as some i mean if we look at like cambridge. Audio for example cambridge. Audio.
Whether it be that s the topaz. A m10. The topaz sr 10. The cxa60 they have a very i don t want to say aggressive because aggressive sounds like it s really in your face.
But they definitely highlight the treble. Quite a bit more this doesn t do that but as a result that leads me into one of its most enduring characteristics is his musicality and i ve talked about musicality off and on. But the ability to put on something and you simply just enjoy what you re listening to no matter. What it is and you can listen for hours and hours and hours and everything sounds great no matter.
If it s classical or jazz or how you complete put on country music or whatever. And it just sounds enjoyable. And it sounds not captivating. This isn t certainly the most grabby amp.
I ve ever had you know you refer back to my vide. Our video..
You know even powered with the sis that thing had a way of sort of grabbing on to you and you could feel the music in you and you know you just felt that if the singer was was crying about the death of their beloved. You know you could just i mean you felt like you were cry. And you know you know it was about you and beloved. It just had really an emotional weight to the amplifier and the way.
It produced sound this doesn t quite do that as much it s definitely more passive in that regard. But but again the musicality factor is there and it s very just pleasant to listen to it doesn t really call attention to it so i do think even with my clutches at high volumes. Let s say. The volume knob straight up and down like 12.
O clock. It can be a bit congested. I think this thing has a sweet spot around 80 85 decibels in my opinion. You start to get north of that and it starts to kind of have a congested quality just a little bit.
But it doesn t really intrude on that musicality all that much in my opinion another thing that it does really well and that ll sum up the sound quality is it is really good with timing dynamics speed summing ups are really great with speed. If you refer back to my r cam. That little old vintage. Our cam.
I even forget the model off the top my head but if you refer back to that video you ll see that i talked about it being a really fast sounding amp. But it didn t do slow. All that well now it was good. But it wasn t great it was just fast and if you re back to one of my videos.
Where i went to atlanta and i had an opportunity to listen to some riga amplifiers. They had this way with speed and just fast and it made music engaging and exciting sounding. But put on something slow and it kind of like sped it up it was like putting on a 33 and hitting a 45 switch not as dramatic. But to me it overdid it a bit and the our cam did that a little bit not as much as the raiga.
But a little bit and a case in point. If you look at the song. The way. It is off of this album.
Which is the first track on side one and you look at the way. It is and you will not look out if you listen to it obviously. But i don t know what they call it there s a word for it the rolling stones used to do it they sing behind the beat. The beats pretty fast in the song.
But his voice is kind of slow in response to that and something like the are cam. And something like the haga those two speeds the vocal speed and the instrument speed sound the same and it s just not in my opinion..
How the song should sound whether or not that s how bruce hornsby intended it to sound. I can t say. But i will say that to me that doesn t sound right through the c32. Six.
It gets it right the instrument. The the bass line whatever you want to call it the speed is there. But the vocals have that sort of slow quality to them. And it s a separate thing and this does that really really well and it makes for a very nice listen again it portrays things in a very natural way.
And i ve just been enthralled with it i am going to sell it off as much as i like it. And it is a great product. And it s also a great stepping stone product. Obviously they don t make this anymore.
If you do want to pick one up. I picked mine up from safe and sound. They sell refurbished units. They apparently always have them in stock.
So you can definitely pick one of these up for 200 less than they were new brand new originally this thing was 550. And you can pick one up for 350. Much as i ve done and they re just lovely integrated. Amplifiers and you can always find them used to so.
It s really not that big of a deal and anyway just terribly terribly thrilled with it so that s about it for now. This is the first part of a two part video. I don t normally do two videos in one night but i am tonight and i m gonna do the musical paradise mp3. Oh one mark three tube amplifiers so check that out and stay tuned and as always i do have some new stuff coming in from ifi audio.
What s going to get the pro. I dsd. But my headphone game isn t strong enough so instead i m going to be getting the xin dak i checked out the zen blue bluetooth dac and i m just going to get the traditional xin dac which is more similar to the older modi to for example where the original modi. Which is just a usb dac.
So anyway. I m excited about that so stay. ” ..
