Today, bluevelvetrestaurant.com would like to introduce to you How to Install .DAI Mods | Dragon Age Inquisition Modding Tutorial. Following along are instructions in the video below:
Everyone complex back with another video and today well today were back to dragon dragon age inquisition and i am specifically going to go over well how to mod using the adat dai mods now for dragon age inquisition we have a few different mod types we have the frost eamon center new. We have the dot dai mods and then a lot of people are combining both mod types in order to mod their game for this tutorial specifically. We are only talking about the dot dai mods in a separate tutorial.
I will talk about the frosty mods and then in another tutorial. We will talk about how to combine the dai mods and the dot frosty mods. But for the purpose of this like i said.
Only the dot dai mod format. Now a few things that you are going to want to know before you start diving into modding dragon age inquisition when using the dot dai mod format and only this mod format sometimes you cant use these mods midway through a playthrough in order to change your characters appearance. So for instance.
If youd like to change your characters here or if youd like to use a new skin or anything like that the mods will crash the black emporium when you try to load in with the mods installed. So what youre going to need to do instead is make sure that you have no mods installed go ahead and make the appropriate changes in the black emporium for instance. If you download a hair that will replace the fourth hair or if you download a skin mod that will replace the third skin mod you just want to go into the black emporium.
Make that change and put it on the correct slider save exit. And then go back to skyhold make a nice big save there go ahead and install your mods alone into the game. And you should see that reflected already now another thing to note when youre modding dragon age.
Inquisition is that some mods are going to have an easier time than others working within the game. So for instance. Human and elf mods tend to be fine.
No matter. Where you are some of them can have a little bit of trouble in the dlcs. But not very much whereas things like qunari or dwarf mods can have a really tough time for instance.
We had a playthrough on stream. Where we did a qunari inquisitor and i had to as we were going uninstall more and more of her mods because they were just having trouble especially in skyhold or in the trespasser dlc. So bear that in mind when youre going through.
Not every mod is going to work in every case and a lot of times. The mod authors in the description of their mods have walked you through that so just bear that in mind as youre going through. But now lets step into the first part of how to mod dai.
Now when you are starting a to mod dai. You need to do some prep work the first thing that youre going to want to do is find where your dai game is located its generally located within your origins folder and that will be wherever you ended up installing it for me. It is on my f drive.
Within my origin game. A folder. And youll know that youre in the right place when you can see the dragon age inquisition a dot exe file now if you cant see any files with a file extension on it if you look at the top of your folder.
You will see that there is a view option. And if you click on that over on the right hand side. You will see that there is a little box that you can check off a four file extension and then when you do that you should be able to now see the extension to all of the files to help you navigate further once you have that located set that aside its just something that youre gonna want to keep an eye on and just know where it is now in a separate location.
Whether thats going to be on your desktop on a separate drive anywhere that you think that youre going to have easy access to and also that you can sacrifice some space towards well dai mods. Dont take up a ton of space. What were about to do will take up a little bit of space.
So if your operating system drive is very full. I might suggest doing it on a separate drive and by the way this does not have to be on the same drive as the game youre going to want to create a dragon age inquisition modding folder. So this is just the all encompassing folder.
Its gonna house everything else that were going to do from here on out. And this is just to keep things as neat and tidy as possible now youre gonna want to open up that folder and create a second folder called dai modding folder. Or a different kind of name.
What is going to clue you in that this folder is going to house your dragon age inquisition months on a separate note within this dragon age modding folder the all encompassing folder that we first created id also highly suggest creating a dai mods. Not in use folder. And also a dai mods empty folder.
And well talk about those two folders down the road. But i just suggest creating these now to make your life. A little bit easier as you go through modding.
Now. Once you have your dai mod. Folder.
Created you need to make sure that you have a separate program. That will open up your zip files as youre downloading different mods and the mod manager. Youre going to need the zip files to be open.
I personally use. 7 zip you could also use winrar or another program of your choosing. But just make sure you have one of those installed and ready to go now once all of that is set youre gonna want to start downloading and installing your mod manager in order to do that youre gonna want to head over to the nexus month website and look for the dai tool suite loader in the dragon age inquisition section.
I will leave a link for that in the description down below as well just to make everything a little bit easier for you now i know on the mod title it does say in parentheses. Abandoned. But dont worry its still good to download and use this is actually exactly what im using for my lets play and i promise you it does still work now you want to make sure that youre manually downloading it and then wherever your files end up downloading youre gonna want to navigate over there now once you have your file downloaded youre going to want to unzip.
It using your program of choice and you do want to make sure that you are putting that mod manager that we just downloaded into the dai modding folder. That all encompassing folder that we created at the start of the video. So once you have that unpacked and in its appropriate place.
You will notice that you have an exe called dai tool suite. Underscore loader. Youre gonna want to double click on that exe to open.
It up and youll be brought to a screen that gives you the option to install the mod manager or the tool suite. You dont need to worry about the tools of those are if you are to actually be creating a mod. Then youre gonna want to click on the mod manager and then the 64 bit box and then just hit download all selected after youve done that and the process has completed youll want to navigate to that tools folder that is in the dai mod manager folder.
Once you open that up you will notice that you have another folder and then another folder. Youre gonna want to keep going until. It is completely unnecessary open up the exe program for the mod manager.
You will then be prompted to pick a mod folder and an exe location folder. Now the mod folder is that 2nd mod folder. I had you create so the one that is inside your all encompassing folder.
And then your exe file is going to be allocated into that folder where your dragon age inquisition game is installed that i had you find at the start of the tutorial once you have both of those file locations picked within the mod manager you just need to exit the mod manager and move on to the next step. Which is finding and installing mods once you head back to you wherever youd like to download your mods from i personally generally use nexus mods sometimes i will find mods off of tumblr from reputable modders that i trust you want to kind of pick and choose through what youd like and after you find your first monitor to download them manually once youve manually downloaded your mod youre gonna want to navigate to wherever they had downloaded and then open up the file youre gonna want to open up that folder until you find the mod dot. Dai mod.
So whatever the mod might name might be you want to make sure that it has the file extension dot dai once you find that dai file youre gonna want to drag and drop it into your dai mod folder. Now not the all encompassing folder. But the folder inside of that that i had had you create that you hooked into your mod manager.
Once you have a mod or two in there. And i would suggest if this is your first time modding dai to start with one or two mods just to get the process under your belt. So once you have that file in that folder.
Youre gonna want to go ahead. And to reopen up your mod manager. When you open up your mod manager.
You should see that that file is located now in your mod manager. You should see it listed out once you do see it listed out and its checked off and ready to go you want to look at the bottom. And youll see a merge button.
You want to hit the merge button and let it do its thing. It sometimes could take a little bit depending on the speed of your computer depending on how many mods youre installing what kind of mods youre installing and so on and so forth so wait till. It says task completed once it says task completed youre good to close out of your mod manager and start your game like normal.
And if everything has gone as planned well you are good and your game. Has officially been modded now once your game is modded and you see that everything works you can go ahead and install more mods. If youd like or just play around with the current mods that you installed now in order to uninstall a mod.
All youre going to do is remove that mod from your mod folder. And i would suggest placing it in that extra folder that i had had you create earlier. Which was called the dai mods.
Not in use folder. If you think you might use that mod down the road. I actually have my own dai mods not in use folder and it is huge because ive been using it for years and its got a whole stack of mods.
But sometimes the mod authors will either delete a mod hide a mod or change in mod and you might not like the change or you might just want to use it and its gone and i prefer having a backup. Just in case. I want to come back to an older hairstyle or an older freckle complexion.
Anything like that its there tucked away for whenever. I need it now once you remove that mod from the mod folder. You want to re open up your mod manager.
And then just re merge the folder. Again the other thing that you could do is reopen up your mod manager and just uncheck. The mod and then hit the merge button to remove it that way if youre only going to temporarily be on installing the mod.
Something to note. Is that i did also have you create a dai mod empty folder. And the reason.
I suggested that was because a lot of times. You might find that you dont want to have any mods installed or maybe you need to pop over to the black emporium really quickly or youre just like is my game is there something wrong with my game or is it just like the odds that are messing something up you need to quickly switch back and forth between having mods and not having mods and it can get pretty tedious. Removing them from your folder into a separate folder.
And so on and so forth. And so instead. What you can do is in your mod manager just change the mod folder location so whenever you just need it to be empty you just need to go over and navigate to your da.
Im on empty folder go ahead and merge do whatever you need to do and when its time to reinstall your mods go back to your normal. Mod folder. Within the mod manager makes it super easy and will actually end up saving you a lot of time down the road.
Now one other very important thing to note. Is that once youve successfully merged your mods using the mod manager. And you see that everything is working in game.
You dont need to hit the merge button again unless you are installing new mods or uninstalling mods. You do not want so once everything is installed youre good to go. And you can just launch the game like normal as youre playing now one other very important thing to note is a lot of times.
The character creation mods and even some mods that add stuff to stores in dragon age inquisition are replacer mods and not addition mod so its not like skyrim where you get just a whole host of other hairs or a whole host of other complexions that are just tagged on at the end of your hair. Is they actually replace things already in the game so make sure that when youre doing that youre reading the description of each of the mods to find out what mod is replacing what in the game. So that way its easier to navigate and make sure everything is working the other thing is that sometimes companion retexture z.
can cause a few problems within the dlcs for myself personally in jaws of hakkon descent and trespasser. Ive had to uninstall a few different companion complexion mods because they were causing things to freeze. So if youre loading into a dlc and youre like oh.
No it will work whats wrong id. First and foremost suggests trying to uninstall those companion complexion mods and then loading in and seeing if that works i want to say it like six or seven times out of ten that actually ends up fixing the problem. But that is pretty much it yall.
That is the basics of modding dai with the dai mods format. Like i said in a separate video down the road. Well talk about how do you install frosty mods and then in a separate separate video about how do you install frosty as well as dai mods at the same time and be able to use both of mod.
