“Welcome back to my channel. My name is caitlin today. We will be doing how how i got a marketing internship at google a lot of friends and family have asking me about the job where i heard about it what was the process. I went through so i wanted to do a video dedicating what i went through so the job that i got was an associate product marketing manager at google.
And ap mmm. It s part of the building opportunities for leadership program or the bold program. I originally heard about this job because there were recruiters coming to my college campus. I couldn t fit it into my schedule.
However i did see that they were hiring. I looked online and there was like this marketing physician and i thought maybe i should apply so i applied last year november 2018. The applications that i sent in was pretty like standard. It was like you know my name address what position.
I was applying for but also my resume and my transcript to give a little insight into my resume transcript. Cuz. Maybe that could give you an idea of like what kind of person they were looking for. But just as ass glamour like this is just my experience.
It could be different for other people. But i am a rising senior at san jose state..
University which is one of the requirements for the. Job i have around 35 gpa. I thought you had a higher gpa. But some of the biggest things on my resume was that i graduated high school with three associate s degrees.
I also have two other marketing internships prior to this. But there with like supers smaller companies. But they were still experienced nevertheless other than that on my resume at the time. I was only involved in one other club the rest of it was just like my high school leadership experience.
I should add that i ve seen other resumes. They look amazing they stand out a lot they re colorful all these other things mine looks pretty basic. So i just want to mention that in case. You re wondering maybe i ll insert it if i decide to so you could see what mine looked like the one that i submitted to them so after i submitted my application.
I didn t hear for them for a good while i got a couple emails from them like here and there saying like reviewing your applications on rolling basis will let you know as soon as possible once we have an update that s forward to march of 2019 this year. That s four months after i submitted my application. I finally got an email back from a recruiter. Who told me that they selected me to do an interview exciting stuff.
She told me that the interview process would be to video chat interviews over like google hangout and it would be 45 minutes both with like two people from the ap mm program attached to the email. My recruiter sent me were two things one of them was a job description of the job and one of my first tips would be to know that thing front to back if there s any functions on there that you don t really know what they mean like what happened to me..
I researched what they met you know the second thing they attached was this guide on how to do google business interviews. They said they would be entering me with hypothetical and behavioral questions. So like tell me a time. When or like.
Imagine. You re on a team. With blah blah blah. And they even told.
Me like before things they would be grading. Me on so i would also advise people memorize that thing as well front to back keep in mind. I m like they re grading. You for like if they want someone with leadership make sure you highlight those attributes in your answers a week before my interviews is what i was really trying to like research into google.
Their company culture how they market. But also trying to do practice questions you could kind of anticipate what sort of questions they re gonna ask you based on the guide and just like in general practice makes perfect a week after i got that email snoozer interview is what i finally did like my two interviews and for me personally they were back to back like a couple hours apart from each other and i would like to know i was super nervous for my interviews. They in the interview. They basically just asked me what they said they would just like tell me a time.
When imagine you re in a situation. When blah blah..
Blah. The one thing that i did like about both of my interviewers is that both of them i could tell like they genuinely wanted to make me or wanted me to feel comfortable. They told me that i could use like a notebook and paper like if i wanted to take notes. But also if i wanted to like pause before they asked question or think about the question that i could do that with the interviews.
I liked how both of my interviewers they were taking notes throughout the whole thing. But it wasn t necessarily about like my manual in the word if i was stuttering. I could tell more like the contents of my answers. And they were really about like doing follow up questions to kind of help me expand on my answers.
Which i really liked in the interview process. One thing that i would advise people is just try and like take your time with the questions. If they ask you something and you don t get it maybe try to ask them to rephrase a question or really do just try to take your time always have that guide in your mind of what they re looking for they re looking for like someone who could fit into the culture. Someone who s a leader someone who could fall self problems that sort of thing and you ll be fine after both of my interviews.
I thought i could have done better and i actually didn t think i was gonna get the internship. Because i was so nervous anyways about like two weeks later i heard back by my recruiter and i actually saw my phone. I got a missed call. I was like oh who tried to call her back you in a pickup.
I guess she was busy. But then later in the day she kept trying to call me..
And i was like why are you trying to call me. I rejected. She wouldn t be trying this hard she called me and then i picked up and she was like a coalition. You got the internship or olaf.
So i think like a lot of people think are wondering like how did i get it among a lot of people and i m actually still trying to figure that out but from what i ve tried to analyze from like my answers or like what i ve sent to them definitely trying to have job related experience definitely do some internships and just study. Those guides they give you alrighty guys so this is the end of the video. I think i covered mostly everything i hope i did i ll actually be starting my internship in next week. Actually do you let me know in the comments down below.
If you have any questions regarding the internship. Maybe i ll try to answer them let me know if you guys want to like want me to blog. My experience doing the internship. Let you guys know how it was make sure you like this video subscribe become hashtag crate loot squad.

From submitting an application, doing two video chat interviews, and receiving an offer, this was my four month journey to getting an internship at thee Google. My start date is the beginning of June 2019 as an APMM BOLD intern. I will clearly have my hands full this summer, but I am grateful for the opportunity (and ready for the free food)!
If there is any takeaway for people wanting advice on how to land the job, tailor your resume and interview answers to the job and company.
