In this video I scroll through every single free game that I’ve received from Epic Games in 2019 (I missed a few of them). I also discuss more broadly the Epic Games Store, the Unreal Engine Marketplace, and some of the practices Epic have been engaging in to gain market share and built a larger user base. Personally the exclusivity deals they’ve been getting don’t affect me. It doesn’t mean that I support the practice of buying timed exclusives. It just means that I think the positives (in this case free games) outweighs the negatives.
Everybody welcome to the channel. This is retro game trip and today. I’m basically basically going to be taking a look at all of the free stuff that i received from epic games in the epic game store and the epic games launcher and i guess in the unreal engine side of things in the marketplace as well.
So i’m just gonna be going through that let me start this video by saying. I am kind of pro epic games. I think that they offer a better percentage cut of releases for sort of indie game developers.
Which i think is nice and generous to sort of stand out against the competitors and the industry standard. I think the fact that they’ve given out like i think last i checked. I received about 50 free games from these guys as a consumer as a you know potential customer and that is awesome like what a cool incentive for me to try out their launcher in the first place.
I get that people who own steam might think that their practices are anti competitive and i can appreciate your opinion.
I just think that there’s so many launches on the marketplace already from all these different companies. I’ll list them off right. Now.
Gog galaxy has an optional launcher epic games. Steam bethesda has a unique launcher blizzard has their own launcher. I believe ubisoft.
I think has their own launcher like the list just goes on and on and on and we are getting to a point. Where it feels ridiculous having that much software installed on one system like that and then having to pick and choose from different games libraries and games catalogues. But there’s not that much you can do about it.
So i’m not gonna complain about it anyway with that little tangent out of the way.
I’m gonna go through this just scrolling down as we go and reading out the titles that i’ve received so observer abzu alan wake. Alan wakes american nightmare axiom verge. I’m gonna skip all the editors and the mod kits that are separate from the free games.
They were giving out like the mod kits are also free and stuff. But that’s not part of the promotion. I’m axiom verge batman arkham asylum game of the year edition batman arkham city game of the year batman arkham knight celeste canarian costume quest enter the gungeon everything fares for honor for tonight.
How do you pronounce this gee nog good nog. I’m not sure hyper light drifter inside kingdom. New lands last day of june layers of fear masterpiece edition.

Another one that i downloaded separate from all these what remains of edith finch and world of goo so of those games. I’ve barely had a chance to play any of them. Which is hilarious to me.
There’s just so many games and not enough time so as you can see a lot of them are blanked out.
But i do from what i know about these games axiom verge is awesome all of the batman games are awesome celeste is one of my favorite indie games of all time. I just i love that game so much costume quest was a blast back when i had a playstation. 3.
So i doubt much has changed what else was never really a big fan of fortnight. But i appreciate else’s opinions and if that makes them happy then so be it um last day of june was awesome. It’s basically got the music from a prog rock artist called steven wilson and somebody like a separate artist designed these characters or at least one of the characters for a music video for one of his songs.
And that was adapted into this sort of video game experience based around the original music video. So it features instrumentals from steven wilson. Himself with characters created by other people for steven wilson.
If you know what i mean so apparently that one’s like quite quite fun quite good quite emotional.
So i still yet to play it like the rest of the batman games are awesome limbo of course you get that pretty much on every platform at some point for 50 cents. What else did i have a blast with super meat boy of course you can’t go wrong it’s an oldie but a goodie lay still really tight platforming. The end is nigh.
I think is from the same company that did super meat boy as a team meet but or just edmund mcmillen perhaps i think that’s another one of his it’s too bad the binding of issac isn’t on here though thimble. We’d park is another one i bought that on my nintendo switch. But then i ended up selling my nintendo switch so this filled that you know itch whatever and yeah.
So that’s all been really really good now just before i end the video. I’ve wanted to just mention obviously you access unreal engine through the epic games launcher. It’s all sort of part and parcel and from the developer side of things they’ve been giving a lot giving away a lot of free content.
Each month.
So you’ve got the standard epic games. Content. Lots of props and character models.
And everything from like infinity blade. Pat well a couple of things from infinity blade paragon. What else have they got i don’t think they have anything from current titles.
Because that would not make any sense paragon paragon. But that you’ve got the yui form mannequin mobile infinity blade effects infinity blade. Weapons grasslands open world demo collection sci fi hallway was another one they gave animation starter pack.
So that’s from their side of things.
But then they also promote other creators like who sell on the store. Obviously they give them a chunk of money to put their stuff up for free either just for the month or permanently so we’ve got an example modular seaside town mesh and actor. Placement 40.
Ocean floor environment. Ballistics effects. Interactive light system.
I’ve yet to try these out i only downloaded. These yesterday and then the permanent collection is huge like you know where do you even start just a lot of furniture packs and dungeon packs and different cell shading and filters and look a bunch of weapons. There a bunch of fire and flame effects.
Isometric interiors like the list goes on so they’ve given away thousands of dollars worth of content.
Here. They’ve got a 50 off sale in the marketplace. Right now.
I think let’s just have a look at that if i go home are they promoting anything. Special discounts. Well 30 30.
70. On sale. I just want yeah.
Yeah. A lot of the stuff is 50 off maybe not all of it. But i remember hearing something about that so all in all i think it’s a really cool piece of software maybe.
It’s maybe as bias of me just because i’ve been dabbling and i’m trying out unreal engine. But i think it’s really good what they’ve got set up anyway. I went off on a bit of a tangent got distracted there.
