Folks. This is vince with dads gaming addiction and today. We’re going to look look at the usa 1910 expansion for the core game ticket to right now it without saying that this is not a standalone experience.
You won’t need the base game in order to play this. Now tickets are right is probably one of our favorite games in this house. We play it on a regular basis.
So picking up this expansion for i think. It was 20 bucks on amazon seemed like a no brainer. So with that being said.
Let’s take a quick look at what came in the box. And what my final thoughts were on this particular expansion. Okay so i guess the first thing.
We’ll look at is whether or not this expansion can fit into the core box. The answer is yes and no the box itself will not fit inside the inside the main core games. Insert here.
As you can see there are these little dividers here and obviously it won’t fit in here. Like that you could of course mutilate your box by removing these inserts.
I guess with a knife or something this material. I mean it’s pretty tough. But you could cut through it if you really tried.
But if you remove these inserts. I’m sure you could fit these or this box in here like this and just move the bag somewhere else off to the side. So.
There’s that but the way i have mine set up is i just have the cards that came in this expansion rubber banded and put into two of the train slots. So i just move those bags over here. There’s enough room to fit two bags into one slot.
So i mean if you’re creative enough and you’re crafty enough you could remove these inserts and fit the entire box in here. Otherwise you could just put the box off to the side maybe back in your cover upstairs in the attic. Whatever and just keep the cards in the insert like this okay.
Now as far as what this expansion actually contains. I don’t have a photographic memory song enough to read this off to you this expansion. Contains 35 new destination tickets with the 1910 logo in the upper right hand corner.
A new 15 point globetrotter bonus card for the most completed tickets. Large format reprints of all of the cards from the original deck including 30 standard destination.
Tickets. Gray background. Including four whose value was revised down word for destination tickets from the long out of print mystery train expansion.
That was originally released at the 2004 s. And fair never heard of this mystery train expansion. But i’m assuming that’s a good thing.
110 train one longest route bonus card. There are three new ways to play ticket to ride with the usa 1910 expansion in addition to using the original deck as described in the game standard rules so there’s the 1910 variant the mega game variant and the big cities variant. Okay and i went ahead and grabbed a few samples from the expansion so you could see what they look like but i also took the train and ticket cards from the core game just to show you what the difference looks like as far as the size is concerned as you can see the reprint.
Which are behind these two cards here are fairly significant in size. So we’ll start with this bonus card here. The globetrotter that’s a new one again for the person that completes the most tickets at the end of the game will receive 15 points and of course.
You’ve got your standard longest route card. It’s called the transamerica express the person with the longest continuous train route at the end of the game will receive ten points okay so here’s a quick look at your train cards. I don’t know if i grabbed all of the covers.
But i tried to grab a variety they look fairly different i mean granted it’s not that different from the corset. But you can tell like there’s a little 1910 logo here on the actual card itself so they look they look nicer.
I think. But it could be that serge is bigger and i can actually see them now so there’s that and of course there’s your locomotive or your wild card okay your ticket cards and if the ticket card has any sort of special association. It’s in the upper right hand corner here for example.
This one says. The mystery train. So that’s part of the mystery train expansion.
This one is worth four points. A nice short route. You’ve got vancouver to portland.
Another mystery train one worth two points. It’s it’s very small as you can see it’s practically two cities over vancouver to portland of course you got longer ones here. San francisco to washington there’s the 1910 logo in the upper right hand corner there.
This one’s worth 21 points and las vegas to new york and this is a big cities card you can see here that the new york is bolded red so again if you’re playing the big cities variant listed in the rule book you’ll be utilizing these cards oh and before i forget. If you want to see the backs of these cards. Here’s the back of your ticket cards and here’s the back of your train cards.
All right. Now you have it a very brief look at us a 1910 expansion for the ticket to ride game.
As far as what i thought positives and negatives. Here as far as the positives. One of the concerns.
I had with ticket to ride and still do is that i am hesitant to pick up or draw destination tickets mid game. Because i never feel like i can complete them on time before the game’s over the usa 1910 expansion fixes this in two ways one it introduces that globetrotter card. Which encourages players to complete as many tickets as possible to get some extra bonus points at the end.
And there are just more tickets in this expansion and a lot of them have shorter routes. So there’s actually a chance in the hope that you might actually complete them should you decide to draw tickets mid game. What i don’t like about the game or the expansion is that well.
But the larger cards are nice and they’re easier to shuffle and easier on the eyes that’s all you’re getting the misc expansion. Our cards i expected a little bit more for its current price point of twenty to twenty five dollars. Like for example.
I really would have liked the ability to add a sixth player to the game another bag of trains of a different color and i know there’s probably some balance issues there. But in theory. If everyone gave themselves a 5 or 10 less trains to work with her back that might actually allow a sixth player to jump in it may not be perfect.
But that would be cool. I mean while this family is a family of five sometimes there’s a guest that’s over that wants to play too and we have to choose another game.
Because there’s not enough players or not enough components in the game to support six players. So i really would have liked that addition to an expansion. But um as far as whether or not i recommend this that’s again it depends.
If you are a person that plays ticket to ride religiously and are used to the destination centers. Letting them memorize them this expansion will give you a lot more to work with and again there’s those variants in there. And you can customize ticket to write any way you want to and again.
It’s great for players that play this on a regular basis for those that only bring this game out once every three to six months you’ll get enough enjoyment out of the core game. Honestly and you won’t mean to buy the expansion. But that’s just my opinion take it from you.
While there’s enough enjoyment out of the core game for just casual play at me. But if you play this religiously. And you’re getting used to the cards then this expansion is probably well worth your time.
